60 Minutes: Brain-Only Computer Interface

The dream computer interface. No keyboards. No mice. Just thoughts.

Imagine that. Reading your emails, typing your reports, and just surfing the net with nothing but your thoughts as the interface. It's not that far off actually. In this 60 minutes report, Scott Pelley show us how pioneering technology can give speech to a man who can no longer use his own muscle to speak. Typing is still quite a slower process in comparison to the traditional method (up to 20 seconds per letter). However, when paired with simple tasks, such as reaching for a snack, such technology may even help those who are paralysed or limbless gain mobility and independence.
