During my undergraduate days at the University of British Columbia, I read Kazuo Ishiguro's
Never Let Me Go in a
Science-Fiction Literature English class . I will never forget that novel. Ishiguro's previous novels were based on older settings generally about the past such as the war in
Remains of the Day. In
NLMG, Ishiguro crossed into the science fiction world, delving into cautionary-tale literature that while short on the tech-language, captivated readers with the mystery of three main characters. The story surrounds three teens who study in an idyllic English boarding school in the countryside. When they're old enough, they're told to follow through with their life goal: donation.
Without spoiling the story, I'll say that the mystery (even when revealed) does nothing to detract from the incredible characters and their story.
